Suitcases or travel is the theme this week over at Sepia Saturday. Well, I can't find a family photo featuring a suit case but I have found a couple with another type of case. It's a school case. I used to have one of these in the 1950s but these photos are from a generation earlier.

I had a school bag in the 1950s but these look like real brief cases, much sturdier than my plaid, cloth school bag.
ReplyDeleteOh this is just perfect, great photos.
ReplyDeleteI love those leather school bags. They must have lasted for years.. so much nicer than the school backpacks.
ReplyDeleteNeat pictures! I really pity the kids attending school now-a-days with those generally heavy backpacks on their backs. Doctors have begun to warn parents about the negatives of carrying such heavy things like that at such young ages.
ReplyDeleteOh, you reminded me - isn't that always the Sepia Saturday way? - of a photo in my collection - me going off to my first day of school - with a little suitcase! Oh well, another SS time.
ReplyDeleteMy first visit to your blog & glad I stopped by. Love the title, "Backtracking'! The school bags are great. My children grumbled but I always took those first day of school pictures, complete with lunch boxes & back packs. Maybe in the future they will be glad I did.
ReplyDeleteSomewhere we have a leather music case that belonged to my wife when she was at school.
ReplyDeleteI had a little suitcase like that! Perfect pictures to match the theme.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure whether you're aware that you are still using Word Verification. I know you had some problems at one time but perhaps you could have a go without it for a while and see how it goes. Most of us have blocked anonymous comments and use comment moderation; seems to work.
These old photos always look as though they had come straight out of one of my albums. Lena looks as though she is full of confidence but Mary looks a bit shy.
ReplyDeleteWhe3n I was at school I had one of those leather satchels (which seem to have come back into fashion). I can still smell - and possibly taste - the thick leather, all those years on. See what memories you have brought to the surface!
ReplyDeleteI never had a school bag. We did have pencil boxes, though. I remember how much fun it was to fill the box up with pencils, paper, erasers, etc. when school started for the year.

You bring back memories! My first little book bag was navy plaid. I got a new one each year, at least through elementary school.
