Sepia Saturday: Tennis anyone?

The theme for this week's Sepia Saturday had me tossed. Snow! There's not much of that around here in Australia, and never has been, so there aren't any family photos with snow in them. Ditto barrels, lamp posts or even a man wielding a shovel.

So I started thinking about the other meanings of snow, and came up with snowy white. Remember when everyone wore white when they played competition tennis every Saturday? Even the sandshoes were white, painted afresh each week.

  1. I don't suppose you get much snow in an average winter.

  2. Now that is what I like to see - bend that theme like an expert tennis player would bend a serve. Fine photographs, a credit to the photographer and to whoever washed the clothing.

  3. Well done boobook, I was stumped too - it's never snowed anywhere I have lived. And, I only found one photo with a 'long handled' anything (and I thought to use that next week), and none with barrels or big coats. You've given me some ideas now, well done! I wonder if our ancestors played tennis with each other in the Western District!?

  4. Can you imagine Roger Federer hitting a ball with one of those rackets? The times they are a changing. And the rackets too.
I think you changed the theme at least 40C!

  5. The gent on the left seems to have very tight white trousers almost like 'long johns' - but I guess there would be not much need for them in Australia either..

  8. Great take on the theme. I had forgotten about painting our tennis shoes white until I read your post.

  9. "Sandshoes" must be what we call "tennis shoes"??

  12. I remember that white thing with tennis players. I know someone who plays tennis and he's not old, but sometimes he does wear all white when in a tennis court. What's up with the white anyway? I never asked then, and now I'm wondering.

  13. Well their clothes certainly look as white as the 'driven snow' as the saying goes, so I think you score at least one point on the match-a-theme chart!

  14. How inventive to go from "snow" to "snowy white" - I liked it! I rmember p[ainting my tennis shoes and getting the stuff all over me or not allowing it enought time to dry

  15. I remember painting my Sunday shoes with white polish, but I don't think I ever painted my tennis shoes.
